Although I went through a major personal transformation, this is not right for everyone, nor is it necessary. Take your life exactly as it is in this moment. It is a fallacy to think that you’re going to get closer to God by changing the form of your life, by leaving your partner or changing your job, or moving or whatever…. by giving up your material possessions or growing your hair, or cutting off your hair, or growing a beard….It is not the form, it is the nature of the being that fulfills the form. If you’re a lawyer you can continue being a lawyer. Just use being a lawyer as a way of coming to God. One form is not necessarily more spiritual than another. In working on the nature of your being, quieting the mind and opening the heart are essential to developing a spiritual consciousness. — Ram Dass (via yogachocolatelove)

Feeling love for the first time…

At IMPACT, I have personally experienced and witnessed some amazing things, both as a student and as a Team Leader. Every year, I get to learn or experience something new. That or I am reminded of something that I have known about God, but never saw in a particular way.

One such thing this past year, was Love. God’s love, and how it can be shown through His children. The family group God placed me with this year really showed me that. More than one member of that group, J Company, shared that it was in that particular group, at this particular camp, that they felt true love for the first time in their lives. And that includes either their good, average or troubled home and family lives.

Imagine the feeling of knowing that God decided to show someone love for the first time through YOU. I, for one, was blown away. That God would use me for such an act. Have you ever experienced this? Do you show God’s love in your everyday life even? Do you even know it when people experience love from you?

SuperWow: IMPACT: Purple School: J Company

The title is a quick rundown of the camp that I was at a few weeks ago. The organization, non-profit I might add, running the camp is SuperWow, who helps run multiple camps during the summer and even around the year. IMPACT is the camp that I have been apart of for nearly 10 years, and is often advertised as the ‘Best week of the year.’ IMPACT has different grade groups known as schools and they are organized by colors. For the students coming out of 6th grade, they are in Orange school, coming out of 7th grade is Red school, 8th grade is Blue school, then 9th grade is Yellow school, 10th is Green School, 11th and 12th grade is Purple school. Because of the large number of students that come to this camp, most schools are separated into two groups, such as Red 1 and Red 2. I have attended as a student for 5 years, and this past year was my fourth year as a Team Leader, or TL, AKA family group leader, AKA Dad (each man and woman leader in the family group are called Moms and Dads. Kinda nice, really…)

This year, I was assigned to Purple school for the second time. I have found that this is a rather unique school at IMPACT with its large numbers and multiple leaders. But God still works, and He found a way to work again this year. I was put with the third Purple family group, and with our theme in Purple school for the week being Band of Brothers, we were known as J Company. The kids in the group, 15 in total, often called our group Jesus Company. One of them made us a ‘group page’ online to stay in touch with each other and called it Company Jesus Walkers. And thats just what this group will be and are growing into. I’ve seen a network of friendships being made with these kids online, with requests for prayers for them, their families and their friends. God loves them, loves us all, and really showed it this year.

I hope whoever is reading this will enjoy the posts I will be making soon regarding this awesome time and these incredible people I have introduced here.

Excited yet regretful return

I have been back from the camp I last posted about for over two weeks now and I have yet to share anything from it. I am very excited to share what I witnessed and learned from God while there, but regretfully I have had to deal with some personal things that like to battle and haunt me. However, I believe that writing, or more accurately to say typing, out some of what I have seen and experience will help me in my personal dealings and also share some insight with others who may be reading this.

This simple post will hopefully be followed by some more fun and inspiration-filled posts soon. In the meantime, God bless.
